Rock Climbing

Most of our rock climbing courses take place on low altitude crags that are relatively close to the road. For these you will need basically any clothing that you can bend and stretch in, that is reasonably warm and that you don't mind scuffing against rough rock! Suitable examples include:

  • Tracksuit trousers/leggings
  • Fleece jacket /hoodie/jumper
  • Rock shoes/trainers/baseball boots/walking boots
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Midge repellant
  • Packed lunch + drink

If you have booked to climb on more remote or higher altitude cliffs, you will require most of the clothing outlined for summer hill walking.

We provide all ropes and other specialist equipment and can provide climbing harnesses and helmets free of charge.

If you have your own climbing harness, helmet and rock shoes, please feel free to bring them. For Climbing Skills courses you are welcome to bring your own rack.

In addition to the clothing and equipment listed above for summer hill walking, you will need:

  • Large rucksack (45 litres plus)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping mat  (closed cell foam or self-inflating)
  • Lightweight tent*
  • Stove + fuel + matches
  • Cooking pans, plate, mug, cutlery
  • Food for the required number of days
  • Washing up liquid/pan scourer
  • Personal washing kit + towel
  • Toilet paper + trowel/polythene bags
  • Torch + spare batteries
  • Full change of clothing - for evening/tent wear

If you are unsure about what to bring or need advice on food, etc - please ask!!
